We have an opening in our utility department for a General Maintenance Operator.

Job Description: Performs journey level maintenance and service work on city streets, right-of-ways and parks; assists in the water department; operates heavy equipment; performs related work as required. Operates a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, including but not limited to mowers, dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes, street sweeper, snow removal vehicles.

Wages & Benefits: Starting wage depends on experience. General work is Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with occasional on call after regular hours to respond to emergency situations or snow removal duties.  A benefit package with vacation/sick/holiday leave, health, vision, dental, life insurance  and PERSI retirement is available.

Work Environment:  The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director, with some leeway allowed for independent judgement and initiative.  The principal duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment and may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment.

Essential Physical Abilities:  Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodations; sufficient strength to lift and carry objects up to 100 pounds; sufficient personal mobility, stamina, flexibility, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations that require bending, stoop, keeling, stretching, and other physical exertions in an outdoor environment, including extremes of heat and cold.
